Community service time.

This year Cisco celebrates its 20th anniversary. This occasion is a motive to reward the society for what it has given to Cisco in these 20 years. For this reason, Cisco will donate 20 years of services to the community by means of several activities that began in July and will extend throughout the world where Cisco has operations until the end of this year.

An example of these activities is the cooperation of 23 volunteers who helped the Second Harvest Food Bank in packing and classifying food donated by the food industry and other government agencies, targeted to scarce resources communities throughout the United States. This event took place in July, during the World Wide Education International Meeting.

The 23 volunteers, members of the Cisco Networking Academy Program from different countries including United States, Yugoslavia, Singapore, United Kingdom, Senegal and Mexico, organized 325 boxes of diverse types of food, which meant 8,800 pounds, equivalent to 6,400 meals for scarce resources communities.

This is an important way of repaying and cooperating with the society we live in, and that has given Cisco the opportunity to grow.

Our student's opinion...

"Since this course has been taught for free at the Universidad Tecnológica de Puebla, it is very helpful for everyone that likes networking communication and how it is carried out. For me the program is an opportunity of self-improvement, since the certificate I received is a guarantee I can show during job interviews".
Roberto Castellanos Mendieta. Academia Regional. Universidad Tecnológica de Puebla.

"I think this certification helps us in our working and technological development, and not only in theory, but in practice. Hands-on exercises are indispensable and make the difference".
José Antonio Cervantes Loeza. Academia Regional. Universidad Tecnológica Metropolitana. Mérida, Yucatán.

Did you finish your CCNA 4? What are you waiting for? Get certified!

If you are student of the Cisco Networking Academy Program and you are almost done with the CCNA 4 course o you just finished it, your immediate goal should be to get the CCNA certification. For many professionals around the world, this is one of the most important steps to get a promising professional development in the networking and IT industries. It is well known that CCNA certified professionals, with solid and verifiable experience are standing out in key positions, with better salaries.

This is the story of Ramón Viñals, first graduate of the Cisco Networking Academy Program Mexico , who obtained the CCIE certification in Routing and Switching.

The CCIE (Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert) certification is the most industry-respected certification. Ramon belongs to the 3% of professionals who have any Cisco certification and becomes a CCIE. Even more, he belongs to the reduced group of graduates of the Cisco Networking Academy Program, who certified first as CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) and then as CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional). To read the complete story click here or visit the Academy Connection in Spanish.

We know that taking the certification exam means an extra effort. However, we learned that the rewards are worth it.

How are we doing in Mexico? We all do the work.

As part of the follow up and quality assessment to Regional Academies, the Cisco Academy Training Center Mexico, has recently conducted a phone survey with the 14 local academies that belong to 15 of the 26 Regional Academies in Mexico.

Through these calls we were able to detect the following faults: Information in Academy Connection is not updated and in some cases it is not correct; Main Contacts are not acquainted with the Quality Assurance Plan; the training offered by some academies is poor; regional instructors haven't enough knowledge and skills; irregular communication between Local and Regional Academies; Regional Academies are not offering enough support to Local Academies, monitoring and control visits have not been regular; they do not have the SmartNET policy, instructors are overloaded, among others.

To solve these faults, it is necessary for the Regional Academy to operate according to the guidelines established by Cisco in the Quality Assurance Plan; to offer quality courses; to keep constant communication with their Local Academies; to offer continuous education events and to visit the Local Academies for monitoring.

CATC has scheduled several monitoring and control visits to 15 Regional Academies that are somehow showing operating problems, according to our survey.

Other CATC task is updating instructors with the new version. Right now, 294 regional instructors have attended the update course and in a short period, the Training Center will offer a training block of Bridge courses from October 15 to 25, with the main purpose that all instructors in the Regional and Local Academies could receive this update to continue teaching the Program's curriculum.

We also want to invite the Local Academies to join this important effort and to send us their feedback to the following e-mail address: catcmx@uat.edu.mx.
